When Elaine contacted Jane Harrell in the early part of 1992 and asked about her upcoming litter, we were looking for something that Elaine could show, and that hopefully could earn some started herding titles. Having been disappointed several times before in puppies we had purchased, we were totally unprepared for the exquisite black tri male puppy that Jane shipped us. Roger picked him up at the airport while Elaine was working, and when Elaine called to ask what he was like, Roger responded, "Well, he’s sure better than anything else you’ve ever gotten, I think you’ll like him." Which was an understatement. That afternoon, when Elaine saw ten week old Rowdy move across the yard for the first time, she knew she had a winner.

Rowdy has excellent conformation; lots of bone, moderate coat, and a topline that would make any Aussie owner envious. He has a lovely head and pleasant expression. We can honestly say that he has the most beautiful, correct, flowing movement that we have ever seen on an Aussie - coming, going, and sidegait. He floats as if he’s moving on clouds.

Rowdy was a lovable sweetheart from the day he arrived. Jane said he cried when she left him at the airport and we believe it. He is sensitive to our moods yet has a strong constitution and isn’t easily intimidated by people, places, or things. Sometimes affectionately called "Goofball", he can act a little silly at times, but that’s just part of his carefree personality.

When Rowdy was about two years old, we realized he had a good deal of herding instinct, even more than we had hoped for. With Roger handling we obtained his started titles quickly, and excitedly informed Mama Jane that Roger thought he could make Rowdy a WTCH. We’ll never forget Jane’s response -- "Well, don’t get your hopes up, you know I didn’t sell him as a working dog." Which she didn’t. But we had a feeling Rowdy could do it.

Rowdy has both conformation and working lines in his heritage, and it’s pretty well accepted that conformation dogs just have a different way of working, and thinking about working, than dogs that are bred on intense working lines do. Rowdy loved to do anything that was FUN!! but when it ceased to be fun and actually turned into physical labor - WORK - , he would quickly decide that working was not a necessity in his life and he’d rather do something else. So the task was to keep Rowdy having FUN!! while working, even when he was hot, muddy, tired, etc. With perseverance and Roger’s expert handling, Rowdy not only achieved his WTCH, but also his RD and RTDsc!! Then in 1998 Rowdy finished his ASCA conformation championship, completing our dream and making Jane one elated lady.

Under the training and handling of Brenda Wendt, Rowdy became an enthusiastic obedience competitor, earning his ASCA CD. He also LOVES agility and is an absolute riot of fun as he barrels through the course. Rowdy is now owned by Sheila Boneham of Bloomington, Indiana, where he is now standing at stud. Sheila and Rowdy have earned his AKC CD and Shelia is preparing Rowdy for his CDX and that elusive VCH title. We KNOW he can do it!!

Rowdy has proven himself a sire of outstanding offspring with wonderful conformation, temperaments, and lots of working ability. He’s truly an exceptional dog, and we can never thank Jane enough for letting us have him.
